How do I create a coub?

Does it have to be 10 seconds?

The video you use can be anything up to ten minutes long, or 200MB. You then use the selection bar in the editor to choose the segment you want to loop. The segment you pick can be any length between 0.1 and 10 seconds.

Where do I get the videos to create coubs?

Right now, Coub can import videos from Youtube, Vimeo, Instagram, Facebook, DailyMotion, Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki. You can also upload your own footage if you want.

What types of video files can I use to create coubs?

Here's a list: .mp4, .flv, .mov, .mkv, .mpeg, .mpg, .webm, .mpe, .avi, .3gp, .asf, .wmv, .m4v, .ogg, .gif.

What kind of audio files can I use to create coubs?

At the moment, Coub supports .mp3, .ogg and .m4a audio tracks.

So I can join loads of videos together in the editor?

Yes, up to 10 videos. Basically, we wanted to make it easy for people to make their own mashups online. As usual, you can add videos from YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, etc, or upload from your computer. You can also add footage from another coub by grabbing the url.

How do I do add more videos?

See the Plus button to the right of your frame viewer? Click it and you'll see your options for adding more video sources.

What's the purpose of duplicating the video?

If you want to join two or more separate parts from the same video, use the "duplicate this video" function. It's among the options when you chooe to add extra video sources. This is really useful for removing parts of the video you don't like. Make your first clip end where the unwanted part begins. Then make your duplicated part begin where the unwanted part ends. And it's gone.

What about using other coubs for my own coub?

So you want to remix someone's coub? Easy. Just click the plus beside the frame selector, and choose the “Coub link” option. Then just paste the url of the coub you want to use.

How do I add another online video source?

Click the plus button to the right of the frame selector. Then choose the "video link" option. Now just paste in the url of the video you want to use from YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, etc.

Can I use a coub that's already made from multiple sources?

Yes. After you choose to use a coub for your own coub you'll get a popup where you can select which part of the coub you'd like to use.

Can I make a coub from a GIF?

Yep, you can. Download the GIF file to your drive and then upload it to the coub editor like you would with a video.

How do I add audio?

Click the “Upload music” button at the bottom-centre of the screen. You'll see two options. 1. Upload music. You can upload any track from your computer less than 10 minutes long. 2. Coub link. Here you can paste the url of a coub to use the music from it.

Do I have to add audio?

Of course not. You can keep the original audio, or you can even set your coub to mute if you like.

How do I use music from another coub?

Click "Upload Music" in the editor. Then click the "Coub Link" button. Now all you have to do is paste in the url of a coub you want to use the music from.

What’s the difference between Backloop and Reverse?

The Reverse button plays your segment forwards, then backwards.

Backloop sets your loop to play only in reverse. Maybe that sounds weird, but it looks beautiful or hilarious with the right footage.

What is Shadow Frame and how do I use it?

Shadow Frame shows you an overlay of the first and last frame of your video. If you want to make a seamless loop, use Shadow Frame to make sure the start and end of your loop match up.

How do I name and tag my coub?

Before you can post a coub, you'll have to give it a name, and you'll be prompted to add tags. Pay attention to the tags.

If tags are clear and descriptive, your coubs will pop up in suggests and be more visible to the rest of our users. You can edit both of these attributes later by clicking the gear icon and choosing “Edit info”.

Is it really so important to use tags?

Yes, yes it is. Tags are a really important discovery tool. If your coub is tagged it’ll be found more easily. It also helps users with similar interests to find each other.

What if my video is longer than 10 minutes?

Try to find a shorter version of what you are trying to upload. The videos you upload to the Coub editor should be no longer than 10 minutes.

What if my video is larger than 200 Mb?

You’ll have to trim it. To do so, you can try QuickTime or an online service like this one.

And what if my audio is larger than 20mb?

You’ll have to trim the audio, or reduce the MP3’s quality. Use free software such as Audacity, or try something online like http://mp3cut.net.

Can I edit my coub after it’s published?

Click the gear icon below the coub. You can edit your loop, add new video sources, or change the audio track.

Can I edit the coub’s info?

Click the gear icon and select “Edit info”. Now you can tweak the name, tags and privacy settings of your coub. You can also change which of your channels it appears in.

How can I hide my coub from my followers? Can I make it private?

Click the gear icon below the coub and choose “Edit info”. You can make your coub “Public” – anyone can see it — or restrict access to your followers, or keep it to yourself by choosing “Private”.

What does “Unlisted” mean?

Unlisted coubs are technically public, but they don't appear on the user's channel, or in searches or tags. They can only be reached by a direct link.

How do I delete my coub?

If you really want to delete your coub, just click the gear icon and then the "delete coub" button. You won’t be able to retrieve the coub after it’s deleted, so make sure your decision is final.

How do I find the coub's source video?

Coub is a discovery portal. Under each coub there's a link back to the original video, except if the user has uploaded the video from their computer or phone.

What about that “Create another coub from this video” button?

You can use the source video from an existing coub to create a new coub. You can find the button to access the source video on most coubs’ individual pages. If you make a coub from a YouTube or Vimeo link, other users will be able to create new coubs using the same snippet. If it's your own footage, you can choose whether you want to let others reuse it or not.

I don't want the black borders of my video to be removed. What can I do?

The editor automatically removes black borders from uploaded videos. When you upload your video you'll see a message to the bottom left of the preview window, saying “Black stripes were removed from this video”. Click it and you'll have the option to keep the black stripes.
